OUR FARM

Tremaine farms is located near Lynden, a small town in the northwest corner of Washington state. Because Lynden is located between Puget Sound and the Cascade mountains, it has a mild climate that is ideal for growing red raspberries. The area is now the world's most productive region, producing more red raspberries per square mile than any other region in the world. Not only does our area produce a large quantity of raspberries, it produces firm, sweet raspberries that are considered by many buyers to be the finest in the world.

To us, farming is a family affair. We are the third generation of Tremaines to grow raspberries in the Lynden area. There have been many changes since Larry’s grandparents started farming 5 acres of Willamettes in the 1950’s. What once was a handpicked crop is now predominately harvested by machines. Processors have come and gone. The Meeker variety introduced in 1967, has surpassed the Willamette as the variety of choice. However, one thing will never change--in the raspberry industry, nothing is ever the same. Each season is different and challenging in it’s own way. It is an exciting industry, and we are glad to be a part of it.
With over 100 acres of raspberries and our small plot of blueberries, we are kept busy year round. We like to do most of the work ourselves. By getting out in the fields and “getting our hands dirty”, we know the condition of each of our fields, and can make informed decisions on cultural practices. (It’s also a great way to teach our kids how to work!) What we cannot do ourselves, we supervise closely. Because of our direct involvement from start to finish, we feel confident that the product we produce is of the highest quality and safety.
